🌈 Rainbow Feelings Yoga for Kids!

Discover the spectrum of your emotions!🌈

Over the past few years of teaching children and guiding kids yoga classes, I have notice an uprising of children with Big Emotions. Our emotions come from within and are connected to certain energy centers in the body. These energy centers are called Chakras, or “Wheels of Light.” There are 7 vital energy centers that sit along the spine and run from the tailbone to the crown of the head. Each one of these energy centers has it’s own special color and characteristics. Here are a few more facts about Chakras:

Fun facts for kids about Chakras, “Wheels of Light!”

  • There are many different charkas in the body, but the 7 main chakras (energy centers) rest along the spine.

  • Each chakra has a color of the rainbow associated with it, red all the way to purple and then clear.

  • When these energy centers are balanced, children and adults feel emotionally balanced and calm.

  • When these energy centers are out of balance, children and adults can feel emotionally stressed and not calm.

  • Connecting to the chakras, energy centers, at a young age can support children to navigate their inner rainbow of emotions.

🔴 Red: Root (Muladhara) Chakra, “I feel strong and safe.”

Self Love Meditation

Root Chakra - Begin Rainbow Feelings Yoga with a mountain meditation to balance this 1st energy center. The color red is associated with the root chakra. When out of balance, we tend to feel worried, scared, or anxious. When balanced we feel strong, safe and supported.

Mountain Morning Meditation

  • Sit tall like a Mountain

  • Notice the breath coming in and out of the nose

  • Feel the cool in breath and warm out breath

  • Picture the color RED

  • Say to yourself, "I feel strong and safe."

  • Stay for 1-3 minutes

🟠 Orange: Sacral (Svadisthana) Chakra, “I feel happy and playful.”

Downward facing dog pose

Sacral Chakra - Now let’s get playful! The color orange is associated with the 2nd chakra, the sacral chakra. When out of balance we tend to feel overwhelmed and emotionally stressed. When balanced we feel emotionally calm and creative.

Downward facing dog pose:

  • After spending time in Sitting Mountain come into Downward Facing Dog Pose

  • Picture the color Orange

  • Say, "I feel happy and playful”

  • Wag your puppy dog tail!

  • Stay in Downward Dog Pose for 3-5 Breaths


🟡 Yellow: Solar Plexus (Manipura) Chakra, “I feel proud and confident!”

Star Pose

Solar Plexus Chakra - Feel your confidence with Star Pose! The color yellow is associated with the 3rd chakra, Solar Plexus. When out of balance we feel insecure and lonely. When in balance, we feel inner strength and confidence.

Star Pose:

  • From Downward Facing Dog, move to Star Pose

  • Picture the color YELLOW

  • Say, "I feel Proud and Confident!"

  • Take a few more breaths feeling confident, in Star Pose (aka Victorious Pose)


🟢 Green: Heart (Anahata) Chakra, “I feel kind and caring.”

Peaceful Warrior Pose

Heart Chakra - Feel love, kindness, and compassion with Peaceful Warrior! The color associated with the Heart Chakra is green. When the 4th chakra is out of balance we feel sad and lonely. A balanced Heart Chakra feels like love, kindness and compassion for yourself and others!

Peaceful Warrior Pose

  • Now take Peaceful Warrior Pose

  • Picture the color GREEN

  • Say, "I feel Kind and Caring"

  • Take a few more breaths in Peaceful Warrior Pose feeling kind and caring (aka Courageous Nice Person Pose) It take courage to be kind.


🔵 Blue: Throat (Vishuddha) Chakra, “I feel honest and truthful.”

Throat Chakra - Now let’s be our authentic self with Lizard Pose! The color associated with the 5th chakra is blue. When the Throat Chakra is out of balance we feel silent and not capable of expressing ourselves. A balanced Throat Chakra brings a feeling of clear and kind communication.

Lizard Pose:

  • From Peaceful Warrior Pose, come down to Lizard Pose

  • Picture the color BLUE

  • Say, "I feel honest and truthful.”

  • Take a few more breaths here feeling honest and truthful


🟣 Purple: Third Eye (Ajna) Chakra, “I feel wise and insightful.”

Third Eye Chakra: Finally, let’s listen to our heart’s truest desire with Child’s Pose! Purple is the color associated with the Third Eye Chakra. When out of balance we feel overly judgmental and critical of ourselves and others. A feeling of wisdom and intuition comes from within when the 6th Chakra is in balance.

Child's Pose

  • Now sit back in Child's Pose

  • Picture the color PURPLE

  • Say, "I feel wise and insightful”

  • Take a few more breaths here feeling wise and insightful


🕉️ Clear/White: Crown (Sahasrara) Chakra, “I feel quiet, peaceful and still.”
